Journal of Practical Intelligence & Wisdom

Archiving Policy

The Journal of Practical Intelligence & Wisdom (JPIW) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published content. We use multiple digital preservation strategies to guarantee that articles remain permanently available to readers, libraries, and indexing services—even in the event that the journal ceases publication.

1. PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

JPIW participates in the PKP Preservation Network, provided through Open Journal Systems (OJS).
PKP PN offers a free, reliable, LOCKSS-based preservation service that ensures:

  • Long-term archiving of all published articles
  • Redundancy across multiple secure network nodes
  • Continued public access even if the journal is no longer active

More information: https://pkp.sfu.ca/pkp-pn/

Participation begins once the journal publishes its first issue and meets PKP PN eligibility requirements.

2. Local Archiving in OJS

All articles are preserved within JPIW’s Open Journal Systems platform, including:

  • Full-text PDFs
  • HTML versions (when applicable)
  • Metadata (Dublin Core, Crossref-ready metadata, and XML formats)
  • Supplementary files

This ensures continuity and internal redundancy.

3. Indexing & Repository Compatibility

To support long-term discoverability, JPIW content is structured for compatibility with:

  • Google Scholar
  • WorldCat
  • OpenAIRE
  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
  • Institutional repositories
  • Digital libraries
  • National and international indexing services

Metadata is openly available and can be harvested via OAI-PMH:

4. Self-Archiving (Green Open Access)

Authors are permitted and encouraged to archive:

  • Submitted manuscripts
  • Accepted manuscripts
  • Published versions (PDF or HTML)

on:

  • Personal websites
  • Institutional repositories
  • Disciplinary repositories (e.g., SSRN, ResearchGate)
  • Public data repositories (Zenodo, OSF)

No embargo period applies. Archiving is allowed immediately upon publication.

5. Digital Backups & Redundancy

The journal maintains regular backups of:

  • Server data
  • Article files
  • Metadata
  • Layout and configurations

Backups are stored securely and updated regularly to prevent data loss.

6. Continuity of Access

If JPIW ever ceases publication:

  • All published articles will remain publicly accessible through PKP PN.
  • OAI-PMH metadata will remain available.
  • Third-party repositories and indexing services will retain archived copies.
  • Authors will retain full rights to distribute and archive their work (see Copyright & Licensing).

This ensures permanent availability and uninterrupted scholarly access.

Summary

JPIW maintains a robust, multi-layered digital preservation strategy built on PKP PN, OJS redundancy, external repository compatibility, and unrestricted author archiving.
Our goal is to ensure that every published article remains freely available, permanently accessible, and securely preserved for future generations.
