Guide for Reviewers: Ensuring Quality and Wisdom

Thank you for agreeing to review for the Journal of Practical Intelligence and Wisdom (JPIW). Your expertise is critical to maintaining the quality and integrity of our Peer-Reviewed Research Articles.

1. Ethical Obligations and Confidentiality

JPIW adheres strictly to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Your participation requires adherence to the following non-negotiable duties:

A. Confidentiality and Blindness

  • Double-Blind Process: All research articles are reviewed double-blind. You will not be informed of the authors’ identities, and your identity will remain confidential from the authors.
  • Privileged Information: All submitted manuscripts are privileged and confidential documents. You must not share, cite, or discuss the content of the manuscript with anyone outside of the JPIW editorial team.

B. Conflicts of Interest (COI) and Fair Play

  • Disclosure: You must immediately inform the Editorial Office and decline the review if you discover any potential conflicts of interest (personal, professional, or financial) that could compromise your objective assessment.
  • Objectivity: Your review must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Please express your views clearly with supporting arguments.

C. Timeliness

  • Commitment: Please commit to the assigned review timeline. If you cannot complete the review by the deadline, please inform the Editorial Office immediately so a replacement can be assigned.
  • JPIW Goal: We aim for an accelerated decision timeline of 6–8 weeks total, making your prompt response essential to our commitment to authors.

D. Non-Misuse of Work

  • Editors must not use, copy, or exploit any unpublished information, data, or arguments disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research, personal benefit, or the benefit of third parties without the author’s explicit written permission.

2. Review Criteria: The JPIW Standard

Beyond standard academic criteria, your review must specifically evaluate the practical relevance and contribution to wisdom, in line with the journal’s mission.

Review DimensionKey Questions for Evaluation
Scholarly RigorIs the methodology sound? Are the conclusions justified by the data and analysis? Are the claims evidence-based?
Originality & ContributionDoes the work contribute genuinely new knowledge to the field? Does it move beyond simple confirmation of existing findings?
Practical UtilityHow clearly does the work link intellectual capacity to real-world judgment and effective, ethical action? What is the utility of the findings for practitioners?
Clarity and OrganizationIs the writing clear, concise, and accessible to an interdisciplinary audience (academics and practitioners)? Is the argument easy to follow?

3. Submitting Your Review

Your review must contain two parts:

  1. Confidential Comments to the Editor: Include your overall recommendation (Accept, Major Revision, Minor Revision, or Reject) and any sensitive comments regarding the ethics or priority of the manuscript.
  2. Detailed Comments for the Author: Provide clear, constructive, and comprehensive feedback focused on how the manuscript can be improved to meet JPIW’s rigorous standards.

The world does not need more information. It needs more wisdom in action.
